About
Siskiyou Seed was established in 2006 by Tom Jopson to provide dependable cold storage for conifer seed. With the help of a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Workforce and Business Development grant, the business offerings expanded to include cone collections, and machinery was upgraded to increase the capacity of cone processing, seed cleaning, and testing in 2023.
Cone collection
Every summer, we scout high priority seed zones across the West for cone crops. We strive to stock as many species for as many regions as possible in our retail seed bank.

If you’d like to collect cones on your property for a future reforestation project, we’d be happy to manage everything from scouting and monitoring to cone processing and seedling production.
Cone & seed processing
Seed processing services include species-specific cleaning techniques like tumbling, dewinging, and screening to remove debris and low-quality seed. Recently upgraded equipment and refined cleaning procedures ensure the highest seed lot quality. Our quality control includes testing for moisture content, purity through x-ray imaging, and germination.
Seed storage
Secure seed storage is provided at our Scott Valley, CA facility, utilizing an onsite freezer equipped with continuous monitoring and backup systems to protect against power failures.
